Cataract Services
Cataract is the clouding of lens inside the eye which leads to decreased vision. It is the most common cause of blindness in India and is conventionally treated with surgery. Apart from biological aging the process of opacification of the lens is hastened by diabetes, trauma, radiation, genetic predispositions. The surgery aims at replacing the natural lens with artificial lens i.e.Intraocular lens (IOL).
Surgeries offered at Kailash Eye Care:
- Phacoemulsification (Stitchless cataract surgery)
This surgery is done under local/topical anesthesia and deals with melting the lens through a very small incision (1.8-2.8mm) and removing it and replacing it with foldable lens. It has excellent results as well as postoperative comfort. - Extracapsular lens extraction (ECCE)
The lens is removed through a larger incision (10 – 12 mm) and replaced by a new artificial lens. This is done if the cataract becomes old and hard and in conditions in which phacoemulsification is not possible.
There is a wide spectrum of intraocular lens (IOLs) which are used during cataract surgery:
- Monofocal Aberration free /Aspheric IOLs
- Toric IOLs
- Multifocal IOLs
- Accomdating IOLs
